Remote assessment for recruitment- A new way of working

Are you looking for a robust assessment process to support your remote recruitment? How do you reliably select the best candidate for your team?

We have extensive experience of assessing candidates remotely using a range of methodologies to support business continuity in our emerging new world.  This brief case study outlines a recent example.

Remote personality profile and verification discussion

We used a personality questionnaire carried out online as a basis for a personal verification discussion with one of our experienced psychologists (carried out via a video link).   During this discussion, key elements pertinent to the role, the organisation and the individual were teased out. This process resulted in a robust assessment of the candidates’ personal qualities and leadership skills.Remote interview

Remote discussion with a group

Individual candidates’ ability to lead a discussion with a multi-disciplinary team was assessed. All participants used our preferred on-line video conferencing facility. This can be down loaded onto a smart phone, laptop or tablet.  Our psychologist facilitated an exercise where each candidate led a discussion with members of the team.

Written exercise

Again this was carried out remotely, with candidates asked to complete a time limited written response to a brief.

Is remote assessment a robust alternative to face-to-face?

We have asked ourselves the same question. Although a remote assessment centre uses a slightly different set of skills, we are still able to fully assess the candidates including their approach to leading a discussion, their interpersonal skills and their ability to engage others.

They also have to demonstrate an additional set of skills – the ability to communicate and engage effectively via video conference. These skills are going to be more and more important in the foreseeable future.

Other remote exercises

Although not used in this assessment, other assessment exercises such as presentations, aptitude exercises can also be carried out remotely.

Resulting in a robust, flexible and resilient process

The output of the remote assessment centre was a fully triangulated picture of each candidate carried out entirely remotely.  A full assessment report was written.  It was also presented verbally to the final interview panel via telephone.  This can also be done via video link.
