The EBW Model of Emotional Intelligence. A Psychometric measure of Emotions and Behaviours at Work.
It is always good to hear about improvements to psychometric instruments to support assessments, particularly if they help to get to the core of an individuals emotional intelligence and the underlying behavioural traits that enhance success.
It is no surprise that the top personal qualities demanded for healthcare staff are the ability to show empathy with patients, to be well organised but flexible and to be a motivated team player with good time management skills i.e. demonstrating resilience.
Pre and post The Francis and The Berwick reports we see these qualities regularly listed in job descriptions. But how do we know which candidates have the desired behaviours and values at their core, and have the resilience to cope with increasing work-loads? The EBW psychometric assessment correlates to look at these qualities in depth.
‘I have found the use of the EBW assessment very useful. The interview process alone is, in my opinion, a very limited guide to the suitability of the candidate for the post. There are precious few other mechanisms for the detailed assessment of emotional intelligence available to us when we try to appoint.’ Quote from an Associate Medical Director of NHS FT Nov 2013
The EBW model of Emotional Intelligence, used by Dearden for both Clinical Consultant and Senior NHS Management assessment, has been upgraded to reflect the latest research and feedback – it retains its’ core strength that has made it a global success, focusing on the 8 key powerful emotional behavioral clusters that impact on Business EQ and performance. But there is now more definition between the resulting scales in the assessment, which means that we are able to determine more subtle differences between candidates, making it easier to understand candidates and provide more insight. There is also a new Medical Doctors ‘norm’ group that has been developed, providing more direct comparison when used for Consultant assessments. The added insights that these assessments provide are accepted as an invaluable resource to support appointment decisions..
